GE Dryer Timer Replacement

A GE dryer had intermittent operation and unreliable cycle behavior. It would work at times and then fail to start or complete a cycle normally. Full electrical and control-circuit diagnostics identified a failed timer as the repair needed.

What was happening

The dryer was not consistently operating. It could work normally on one attempt and then fail to start or behave incorrectly on a later cycle. Intermittent problems like this need diagnosis rather than guessing because several components can affect a dryer’s start and cycle operation.

The reported issue was not treated as a timer replacement by default. The operating circuit was checked first to confirm the source of the failure.

What we repaired

  • Performed a full diagnostic inspection of the dryer and its operating circuit.
  • Checked the timer-related control path and identified the timer as the failed component.
  • Used an in-stock replacement timer to complete the repair during the visit.
  • Installed the replacement timer and reassembled the control panel.
  • Performed final functional testing to confirm the dryer started and responded correctly through the selected cycles.

Why intermittent dryer operation needs diagnosis

Several components can look similar

Intermittent dryer problems can involve the timer, door switch, start circuit, power supply, thermal protection, wiring, or another control component. Testing helps isolate the actual cause.

Cycle problems are not always heating problems

A dryer that fails to advance, start reliably, or operate consistently may have a control issue even when the heating system itself is not the root cause.

Final testing matters

After a control component is replaced, the dryer should be checked through its normal selections to verify dependable start and cycle operation.

Signs a dryer timer or control component may need attention

A timer is only one possible cause. A diagnostic visit is the right first step when a dryer works intermittently, fails to start, or behaves unpredictably across cycles.
  • The dryer starts sometimes but not every time.
  • The dial does not advance normally through a cycle.
  • The dryer turns off or stops at inconsistent points.
  • Different cycle settings behave unexpectedly.
  • The dryer has power, but normal operation is unreliable.
